Ana surges into quarters

Ana reached the last eight of the East West Bank Classic with a 6-2, 6-2 thrashing of world No.24 Lucie Safarova.The 19-year-old recovered from a 40-0 deficit on Safarova's serve in the opening game and immediately broke. She missed a break point opportunity in the third game, but converted another in the seventh to seal a double break. She comfortably served out the set.Ana, seeded third here, kept the pressure on the Czech player and scored another break in the third game of the second set. 今日同以往傳媒好友談及巳故民建聯主席馬力病逝時,均對其過身深表惋惜.人生匆匆數十寒暑,死亡係必然既事情,儘管享受時間長或短,能活過亦不枉此生.自己覺得,如人生最后之路係要由病魔主宰,懶理生前豐功偉績,或家財萬貫,最后時光竟是痛苦渡過,人生之苦莫過於此.在此希望"生果"既各港聞編輯高抬貴手,放過呢位戰敗於Cancer之下既鬥士.(重申本人由始至終並不認同民建聯黨綱及政治理念)
從馬力今年六四19週年前之言論,同好友談及當年六四事件,大多數都談及當年中央及港政界之反應,但又有幾多記得當年香港以及中,臺兩岸三地於跑馬地兩度舉行既"民主歌聲獻中華"?當中既一個攪手曾志偉,六四事件后絕口不提此演唱會,但多年后經傳媒再三請求下,我記得當年係只接受明周獨家專訪,提及六四事件后睇法,我記得內文講佢點解咁信佛,係因為當年如果無將海外捐獻送到學生手上,根本唔會發生六四事件,"曾"認為自己間接造成六四事件,所以往后一心一意信佛.

The 19-year-old, seeded third, defeated the world No.91 in 72 minutes in her first match since the Wimbledon semi-finals a month ago.Ana served five aces and skilfully dealth with her opponent's extremely high first serve percentage of 94.The world No.5 will face 16th seed Lucie Safarova in the third round on Thursday. Big Ben Silenced for a Month for Repairs

The House of Commons said Wednesday Aug. 8, 2007 that the distinctive bongs would sound the hour for the last time at 8 a.m. (0700 GMT) Saturday before four to six weeks of maintenance work on the clock.

Ana begins US Open Series defence

August 06, 2007 / Los AngelesAs Ana returns to the hard courts of the United States this week in quest of success in Los Angeles, not only will she competing in her first tournament since a notable semi-final run at Wimbledon, she will be also be seeking another U.S. Open Series Challenge title. Now in its fourth season, the U.S. Open Series Challenge provides players an added incentive by offering additional prize money at the U.S. Open based on their performance in the summer swing of Sony Ericsson WTA Tour tournaments in Stanford, San Diego, Los Angeles, Canada and New Haven. Points are awarded throughout the Series according to tournament performances, and the top three finishers are then eligible for bonus prize money at the year’s final Grand Slam. In 2006, due in large part to Ana’s breakthrough victory over Martina Hingis in the finals of the Rogers Cup in Montreal, Ana edged out Maria Sharapova to finish atop the U.S. Open Series leaderboard. “Winning the U.S. Open Series was special for me,” Ana said. “When you look at the people who have won Montreal or the U.S. Open Series, it was big names. It was pretty amazing that I was one of them.”As champion of the Challenge, Ana earned an extra $40,000 in prize money upon advancing to the third round of the U.S. Open. Although this was undoubtedly a healthy and welcomed supplement, Ana was in fact eligible for an astonishing benefit of $1 million, which is the maximum Series’ bonus for winning the U.S. Open. In 2005, the recently retired Kim Clijsters earned such a bonus by virtue of winning the Challenge and subsequently taking home the U.S. Open crown. The resulting $2.2 million payout represents the largest purse in the history of women’s sports. While it may not have come on especially with fans in Europe, the North American tennis-watching public has embraced the Series, with ESPN showing the finals of men’s and women’s events back-to-back each weekend. Noticing its success, Tennis Australia introduced the Australian Open Series earlier this year.In order to contend for the U.S. Open Series title again in 2007, Ana faces an uphill climb as injuries forced her to miss the first two tournaments of the Challenge, thereby nullifying the opportunity to earn points. French Police Recover Stolen Picassos

French investigators recovered two Picasso paintings and a drawing that were stolen from the home of the artist's granddaughter in an overnight heist in February 2007, a police official said Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2007. Police took three people into custody. Two suspects were carrying the rolled-up canvases when police closed in Tuesday as they were expected to try to sell the masterpieces, the official said. The two paintings _ one of Pablo Picasso's daughter Maya, the other of his second wife Jacqueline, are worth more than euro50 million (nearly US$66 million).
