
MELBOURNE, Jan 19 (Reuters) - World number two Roger Federer begins his quest for a record-equalling 14th grand slam title against Italy’s Andreas Seppi in the final match on day one of the Australian Open on Monday.
Federer will meet Seppi in the Rod Laver Arena after champion Novak Djokovic starts his title defence against another Italian, Andrea Stoppini.
Seventh seed Andy Roddick opens the tournament on the main show court with his match against Sweden’s Bjorn Rehnquist.
Women’s number one Jelena Jankovic also starts her first grand slam as top seed against Australia’s Yvonne Meusburger on Rod Laver.
French Open champion Ana Ivanovic opens play on the second show court at Hisense Arena against Germany’s Julia Goerges while former men’s champion Marat Safin of Russia, who has a shoulder injury, will end the day’s play against Spain’s Ivan Navarro.
